OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Plastic Surgery at King George Medical University is one of the largest in North India.
It is also one of the oldest centers for teaching, training and patient care in the specialty in North India.
The department has experienced faculty supported by residents, staff, nurses, physiotherapist and speech therapist.
A significant percentage of in-patient work is now related to complicated trauma management, congenital deformity reconstructions, craniofacial reconstructions and microsurgery.
The department has particular expertise in a number of areas which is contributed to by sub-specialization amongst consultants and by conduct of various super-specialty multi- disciplinary clinics.

  • The Department has got 70 general beds and 2 ICU beds.
  • The Department caters to all sub-specialties of Plastic Surgery. It has got two fully equipped Operation theatres. Two High End Laser Machines for Pigmented Lesions, Tattoos and Vascular lesions: Nd Yag & Pulse Dye Laser; Two World Class Carl Zeiss Opmi Vario Operating Microscopes for performing Microsurgery and a complete Endoscopic Plastic Surgery systems. The Department has in-house:
    • Maxillofacial and Prosthetic laboratory
    • Speech Analysis and Speech Therapy Lab
    • Physiotherapy and Splint Fabrication Unit
    • Experimental Microsurgery Laboratory
    • Nasoendoscopy Room
  • The Department runs several specialty clinics like:
    • Multi-disciplinary Cleft Lip & Palate clinic
    • Keloid clinic
    • Vascular Anomalies Clinic

The Department deals with the whole spectrum of Plastic Surgery and allied sub-specialities like:
Congenital Deformities - Cleft Lip Palate (SMILE TRAIN, USA), Hypospadias, Hand Anomalies
Trauma Care - Injuries to Hands, Feet and Facial soft tissues and bones
Cancer reconstructions after tumor ablation Esthetic surgery - Hair Transplantation, Breast Implants and Breast Reduction, Liposuction, Face lift, Surgery for sagging eyelids (Blepharoplasty), Tummy-tuck (Abdominoplasty), Lasers for pigmentation, tattoo removal and vascular nevi.
Post burn reconstructions Surgery for Deformities due to Leprosy: Paralyzed hand, Foot Drop, Facial deformities
General Plastic Surgery
Microsurgery
Replantation after traumatic amputation of digits and limbs, Vascular Repair after injury to blood vessels, Free Flap Tissue Transfer for complex tissue defects
Brachial plexus surgery - Nerve repair, Nerve Transfers, Free Functioning muscle Transfers for Paralyzed Upper Limb after Trauma/Accident
